Falu Red + White

Even though it’s cooler toned, it’s still neutral and works well with bright white siding and trim. Slate gray can give your home a moodier ambiance or make it look more modern, depending on your home’s architectural style. This blue hue has green undertones and can appear almost teal in the right lighting.

White and Seafoam Blue

By definition, “greiges” fall on the warmer side of the undertone spectrum, but not so far that they get called cream, ivory, beige, or tan. Most greiges on this list gained popularity because their undertones are extremely subtle – meaning they truly walk the line between gray and beige. Still, it’s important to understand them so you’re not surprised when it goes up on your wall. The rug also has similar colors like the space and blends in well giving it a type of pattern. The cushions in hale navy and light green are a wonderful addition to the pink couch and complement it nicely. Use a paint colour like light steel blue and tan from the above colour palette for your family room and make it a happy place.

This soft gray shade is equal parts industrial and elegant, making it both modern and inviting. Warmer in direct light and neutral in the shade, Dovetail offers a captivating chameleon effect. Consider mixing it with other similar hues to create a neutral color scheme. We especially love pairing it with Skyline Steel by Sherwin Williams to create a tonal palette. Taupe pairs well with earthy color schemes like stone siding and brick accents. Those looking to make a dramatic statement with their exterior should have Cheating Heart on their radar.

Soft White + Pale Blue

White and natural light is no doubt the primary source of light but the circular hanging lights from the ceiling give a nice contemporary touch. The couch is in a lighter shade of brown and the throw pillows also use those colors as the base. The geometric print sofa on the other end adds a fun element with some earth-tone cushions. The rug is also very well color-coordinated with the whole space and this makes it an unexpected yet the right color scheme. Not to miss, the golden lamp at the side table which also golden adds a regal touch to the palette. This type of paint colour can be found in Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams range also. Mix and match reds, blues and yellows for your home’s exterior colors. By the way, save time and effort with this colorimeter instead of trying to match paint colors with a physical fan deck. Cedar shake siding is painted off-white for an airy feel to this Colonial house. A light, blue-gray coats the front door and shutters for a springy and modern look. White front porch railings and window trim follow the breezy exterior theme.

The key to color combinations is to select one color that pops (here, yellow) and another that's used sparingly (in this case, red). The rich shade of blue acts almost as a neutral for the exterior house paint color. Monochromatic colors on the wheel are one basic color (hue), but have different values — lightness (tints) or darkness (shades). A dramatic and bold way to use the monochromatic paint trend is to paint your home all black.

The traditional combination can easily be replicated with red, navy blue, white, and brown paints. Pick a shade of white with undertones that match the rest of your exterior color scheme. On this home, white siding with blue undertones melds gracefully with a bright blue front door, powder-blue porch furniture, and pendant light.

Paint color can truly dictate the mood for your residence from the very get go. It also has the potential to raise the value of your home as well as protect it from the natural elements. With its subtle blue undertones, this color creates a friendly façade, especially when paired with eye-catching hues. For example, a paint color under a shaded tree will appear a bit darker than an exterior hue in direct sunlight. The direction of your home also impacts how paint color appears.Using paint color samples to see color options in different lighting can help you determine which color to use. While bolder, eclectic colors are rising in usage, taupe will still remain a frontrunner in exterior home paint colors.

Revive your house with one of these popular home exterior paint choices. Bold colors can add a contemporary vibe to historic homes in a fun way. For this charming fishing shack-turned-cottage that was the former studio of the late painter William Maynard, less is more.

When pairing with Thunder, you don’t want to go too crazy with accents but should rather pair it with a nice olive or even a darker shade of taupe itself.

Choosing a color scheme for the exterior of your home can be a tough decision, but there are a few things you can review to help narrow down your final answers. First, focus on selecting three different colors for your exterior palette. Dark, moody, and versatile, this deep shade will certainly be one of the most popular exterior paint colors.

Country Blue + White + Black

Each color in the trio is distinct, but their commonalities create perfect harmony. Instead of mixing a variety of different colors, create contrast by using two different shades of the same paint color. To ensure a visible contrast and a depth change, use tones at least two shades apart. Many of us think that only a colorful room has the power to attract eyes, but let us tell you even white and black paint colors can create a wonderful whole house color palette. This cool white shade is the main paint color in the room and is used in a thoughtful way. While it is always easy to go from minimal to overwhelming in a white and black color palette this complementary color scheme is a great idea for the family room.

Hunter-green shutters and shake shingles stand out against this home's soft sage-green siding. Green garage doors continue the nature-inspired exterior color scheme, while copper light fixtures pick up the amber hues of the surrounding stone. A Tudor-style home has distinct woodwork that lends itself well to a black-and-white exterior color scheme. The color contrast emphasizes the design and adds a patterned element to the facade. Continue the two-tone look with a black garage door, house numbers, and wall sconces.

Using the warmer tints of color themes with a simple white trim visually brings the home closer to the curb to make your home stand out in your neighborhood. Once you’ve selected a basic color, it’s easy to create many different and warmer versions within the same family. All you need to do is combine that color with a neutral in order to make it warmer or cooler, lighter or darker.

Sherwin-Williams Black Magic

While darker and vivid hues of blue really stand out, lighter shades of blue are also warm and inviting. Blue is a cheerful color and highlighted by the snow in this image, this blue house really stands out. While painting the house red can give it a whole new lease on life, keep in mind that you can also create a new mood with something as simple as changing the door color. We have also personally used Sherwin Williams White Heron (SW 7627) with great success, which is a lesser known color similar to Gray Mist above.

Whites, grays, and beiges consistently top the lists of go-to house paint colors, and bolder shades, including greens, blues, and even blacks, are steadily growing in popularity. To help you sort through the wide variety of shades and tints, we've rounded up seven of the best exterior paint colors from some of our favorite brands. Especially on smaller or more traditional-style homes, simplicity works best for exterior color combinations. Here, a touch of black supplied by the shutters and mailbox, contrasted in white trim, keeps the look crisp and modern.

Here, greige—that’s gray and beige—with a teal door and natural wood and stone accents puts a modern spin on the traditional neighborhood home. This combination still looks warm and welcoming without feeling dated. Many people equate contemporary homes with a limited exterior color scheme. But modern-style homes offer inspiration for a diverse way to showcase color and pattern, even if the palette is pretty neutral.

It mirrors a slightly dreary sky, looking like clouds that are almost ready to burst with raindrops. This color will truly make your house pop amongst the other houses around it. This bold usage of a purple-blue has not been very common in the past, but for homeowners looking for a bold new flare to their home, it is an excellent choice. That’s another north-facing room and it also had a lot of cool white and blue accessories, causing it to look less greige.

The Unruh Civil Rights Act (Civ. Code § 51, et seq.) and the Disabled Persons Act (Civ. You can jazz up the look of a plain concrete path by edging it with a brick or natural stone border.

More in Curb Appeal

The clear path ensures that pedestrians have a safe and adequate place to walk and should be 1.8–2.4 m wide in residential settings and 2.4–4.5 m wide in downtown or commercial areas with heavy pedestrian volumes. 2 The ADA Standards for Accessible Design require people to use the least slope possible on curb ramps that are part of accessible routes. Gutters are generally sloped more steeply than the roadway to increase runoff velocity.

Easy DIYs for Instant Autumn Curb Appeal

2 The ADA Standards for Accessible Design require people to use the least slope possible on accessible routes. 5Sidewalks are still needed, even though the AASHTO Green Book does not specify guidelines for sidewalk coverage along this road. 4Cross-slopes ranging from 3.0 to 6.0 percent should be used only for low surface types such as gravel, loose earth, and crushed stone. The AASHTO Green Book indicates that "average walking speeds range from 0.8 to 1.8 m/s." The MUTCD assumes an average walking speed of 1.220 m/s (4 ft/s). Requirements for tree spacing depend upon a number of key factors and should be tailored to the chosen species, standard (or desired) tree pit size, fixed property lines, setback from curb, and integration with street lights and other furniture. But Bradford questioned why the city was "rushing to unveil" the newly designed bins before consulting council or Torontonians.

Transit Vehicle Design

Larger maintenance vehicles – especially when the edge of the path cannot be seen very well by drivers – can cause significant edge damage if wheels ride at the edges. The street furniture zone is defined as the section of the sidewalk between the curb and the clear path, in which street furniture and amenities such as lighting, benches, newspaper kiosks, transit facilities, utility poles, tree pits, and cycle parking are provided. The street furniture zone may also contain green infrastructure elements such as rain gardens, trees, or flow-through planters. The most accessible were relatively large and could be activated with little force. Those that were least accessible were small, required significant force to activate, and were located far from the logical crossing point.

Trees should typically be "limbed up" ensuring branches grow above and away from the sidewalk. Trees with drooping or low growing branches can create hazards for nearby pedestrians or vehicles. Sidewalk thickness is just another aspect of the overall sidewalk "pavement" design, and should take into consideration expected loading, local soil conditions and policies. In theory, the thicker the sidewalk, the less likely it will fail prematurely; however, adequate research does not exist to support this claim in the case of frost heave or tree roots. It is important to ensure that sidewalks are constructed with enough thickness to support expected vehicle loading which may include maintenance vehicles or more substantial loads at driveway crossings.

The book was distributed to local government planning agencies and community groups throughout the GCRTA service area. Individual communities have been encouraged to use the principles and ideas presented in the book and adapt them to fit their context. The City of Shaker Heights has already implemented the program at one of its busiest stops by improving sidewalks and street crossings and adding seating elements as shown in the photos above.

Poorly drained sidewalks also permit the accumulation of silt and debris, further impeding access. The AASHTO Green Book, adopted by most States, provides slope ranges based on street type (Table 4-1). The AASHTO Green Book recognizes several general factors as important to the functionality of public rights-of-way, including the grade of the road, cross-slopes, traffic control devices, curbs, drainage, the road crown, and roadway width (Table 4-1). Curb extensions can also increase the angle at which pedestrians meet motor vehicles, improving the visibility of both (OR DOT,1995). In addition, curb extensions shorten crossing distances and provide sidewalk space for curb ramps with landings. One critical aspect of pedestrian crossing safety is the sight distance between pedestrians and drivers approaching a crossing. Adequate sight distance should be provided for drivers to see pedestrians entering a crosswalk and stop their vehicles.

Two- to three-inch-thick flagstone pieces will be sturdy enough to hold up to foot traffic. To DIY a straight path, define the perimeter with stakes and string, and in the less common case of a curvy walkway, use a garden hose or PVC pipe to define the edges. Excavate the area levelly, then layer several inches of crushed gravel, followed by a layer of sand, and top with pea gravel (the smallest variety). When streets are redesigned, existing trees should be retained where possible. If existing trees must be removed, the same number of trees should be planted within the street.

Wood is also a lovely way to enliven a garden path, with its warm neutrality contrasting against brilliant green foliage. A simple walkway design is necessary if you want your landscaping or other elements of your outdoor space to stand out. To keep your walkway in the background, use natural colors and a simple configuration.

Streets comprise more than 80% of public space in cities, but they often fail to provide their surrounding communities with a space where people can safely walk, bicycle, drive, take transit, and socialize. 1 If space prohibits a slope less than 8.33%, curb ramps to be constructed on existing sites may have a slope of 8.33 to 10% with a maximum rise of 150 mm (6 in) or a slope of 10% to 12.5% with a maximum rise of 75 mm (3 in). 3 If space prohibits a slope less than 8.33%, curb ramps to be constructed on existing sites may have a slope of 8.33 to 10% with a maximum rise of 150 mm (6 in) or a slope of 10 to 12.5% with a maximum rise of 75 mm (3 in). 3 If space prohibits a slope less than 8.33%, curb ramps to be constructed on existing sites may have a slope of 8.33% to 10% with a maximum rise of 150 mm (6 in) or a slope of 10% to 12.5% with a maximum rise of 75 mm (3 in). Although sidewalks are elements of the public right-of-way, many city charters assign the owner of the adjacent property with responsibility for sidewalk upkeep. It is common for city charters to specify that the city cannot be held liable for any accident or injury due to sidewalk conditions.

If your walkway ideas call for a curved path, you may have more freedom to use a variety of textures, colors, and materials. Your choice of edging material is one way to personalize gravel walkway ideas. You can purchase thin metal or plastic edging that forms a clean line between the crushed stone and your lawn.

Local topography and weather conditions also affect how steeply sidewalks, gutters, and roads should be sloped to provide adequate drainage. According to the AASHTO Green Book, a cross-slope between 1.5 to 2.0 percent provides effective drainage on paved surfaces in most weather conditions (AASHTO, 1995). Chart does not include figures for freeways or divided arterials, which are not designed for pedestrians and are not built with sidewalks. Wide sidewalks can be designed similar to sidewalks with a setback if the upper portion of the sidewalk is leveled for pedestrians and the bottom portion is sloped for automobiles (Figure 4-34).

Many factors work in concert to make sidewalks and sidewalk elements accessible. Although it is important to make individual features accessible, such improvements will not be useful unless the conditions of the sidewalk as a whole can be negotiated. Accessible sidewalks must be included as part of all new construction and alterations.

Asphalt thicknesses for shared use paths can be as low as two inches if laid on top of an adequate aggregate depth of4 inches and if only very light duty equipment will use the path. If laying asphalt without a base and an expectation that only medium duty trucks may use the facilities, 8 inches may be needed. Depths for asphalt sidewalks are not very well documented, but at a minimum should be 2 inches with an adequate aggregate depth similar to the minimum depth of an asphalt path. It is also important for the paths to be at least 10 feet wide to support truck wheels at the edges.

How to Make a Bookshelf in Minecraft: 9 Steps with Pictures

minecraft bookshelf design

We are starting the list off with a basic Minecraft bookshelf design. In the crafting menu, you should see a crafting area that is made up of a 3x3 crafting grid. To make a bookshelf, place 6 wood planks and 3 books in the 3x3 crafting grid. If you find a village without a librarian, craft and place a lectern in a house that doesn’t already have an occupation block. A villager that doesn’t yet have a profession will see the lectern and turn into a librarian, allowing you to trade for bookshelves. When placed next to an enchanting table, it will increase the level of enchantments that can be done at that table.

Move the Bookshelf to Inventory

This block is great for decorating your house if you want to build a library or study, but it can also power up your enchanting table. Outside of being used for crafting and enchanting, players can also use bookshelf blocks to decorate rooms, including bedrooms, living spaces, or studies. They are the perfect block for adding color to a space and can add a refreshing, personal touch to a home.

Display Wall

You can also store enchanted books on bookshelves to boost the level of enchantments that can be done at an enchanting table. Minecraft players have their hands full right from the start of the game building out important structures. In Minecraft, villages are populated with NPC villagers that will trade with you. Each villager trades different items based on their profession, and a librarian villager will trade bookshelves.

Add Items to make a Bookshelf

Droppers behave similarly when inserting books into the bookshelf. Chiseled bookshelves are blocks that can hold books, books and quills, written books, enchanted books and knowledge books. It is also important to note that just having the bookshelves and the table isn’t enough to cast enchantments. Players will also need the required EXP in order to full utilize their magic-casting space. Even though you can’t pick or place books on the bookshelf, the block still fulfills its aesthetic purpose.

minecraft bookshelf design

In Minecraft, you can craft bookshelf blocks with 6 Planks and 3 Books. Here we’ll cover a basic to advanced bookshelf design or a bookshelf with an integrated fish tank. By decorating them with looms, wooden blocks (mainly spruce), and other plants, you can have a perfect place to enchant items and decorate your base. The most common use for books in a survival playthrough of Minecraft is in setting up an enchanting table.

To add books to the shelves, drag and drop them from your inventory into the places. Now that you have gathered all the necessary materials, it’s time to put them to use and craft a bookshelf. The design consists of two barrel layers and a shelf made from spruce trapdoors with all the decorative items.

How to Use a Bookshelf in Minecraft?

To build a bookshelf, players will need x6 wood planks and x3 books. The planks will go in the top three and bottom three rows, with the books sandwiched in between. Depending on how tall your bookshelves tend to be, a handy ladder or two might be useful to climb to the top of your library.

You can also just mine and take their bookshelves if they have a library, as there is no repercussion for stealing from a villager. The easiest way to obtain bookshelves in Minecraft is to craft them, although it can be tedious due to the required ingredients. The Minecraft Bookshelf recipe requires three books and six wood planks. To make a single book, you need three pieces of paper and one leather, and paper is crafted in sets of three, requiring three sugarcane per craft. Bookshelves are a critical element in creating a proper enchantment room. When they are placed around an enchanting table, they raise the level of the enchantments crafted.

Front of House FOH vs Back of House BOH: Whats the Difference?

With turnover being so frequent in the food service industry, expect that you’ll have to onboard new employees more often than other small business owners. And remember that you’ll probably be onboarding employees who’ve never had a job before. When an aspect of your BOH culture — or any team culture — isn’t working, team members, FOH staff members, and even customers can sense it almost instantly. It takes intentionality and work to build a sustainable BOH culture, and here are some dos and don’ts to keep in mind while you do so. ‘Back of house’ refers to the areas of a restaurant or cafe that customers don’t see — like the kitchen, storage area, break rooms, and offices — and where all the behind-the-scenes operations take place.

Their responsibilities include ensuring that safety standards are met, employing fresh hires, and regulating chaos by helping when needed. Because servers have the most direct contact with guests, they should be friendly and accommodating. A good server knows the menu, can answer questions, take orders, make suggestions, and connect with the kitchen crew. This role reports to the General Manager and oversees all front-of-house workers. They interview and hire new employees, create timetables, and manage client concerns.

Improve Communication

In this comprehensive guide, we will delve into the world of the back of house in a restaurant, understanding its importance, key concepts, and how it contributes to the success of a restaurant. The restaurant's back of house is where food preparation, storage, and business administration take place. Also known as BOH, this is the part of the restaurant customers don't see, and is where food is ordered, stocked, prepared, cooked, and plated. The back of house includes the kitchen, prep areas, and manager's offices. While the front-of-house and back-of-house operations in a restaurant differ vastly in their duties, their success hinges on seamless collaboration. Kitchen managers oversee all BOH operations, from staff scheduling to inventory management.

Technology is important in connecting the front and back of the house in the restaurant industry. Many restaurant technologies are available to help streamline communication and keep everyone on the same page. Line cooks are stationed in the kitchen and are classified based on the type of food cooked or position in the kitchen. In addition to the POS, payment hardware and software offer your guests a variety of options to pay for their meals.

Certain tasks will overlap between FOH (front of house)/BOH (back of house) positions, but, for the most part, BOH staff will remain behind the scenes as much as possible. We’ll delve deeper into the areas and positions in your restaurant that are FOH in a section below, but it’s important to understand that other aspects of your restaurant also fall into this category. The BOH is responsible for upholding strict food safety and hygiene standards to avoid foodborne illnesses. Regular cleaning and sanitization of all equipment, surfaces, and utensils are crucial to prevent cross-contamination. Staff should be trained in safe food handling practices, proper temperature control, and allergen awareness.

Kate is revealed to be the heir to the Mirrors House, the family of nobles who used to own the mansion before they were taken over by shadows 63 years ago. Kate's mother, Catherine, who was pregnant with her at the time, managed to escape with her maid Emily, but in the process got unified with a morph and became a shadow. This slowed down her pregnancy, leading to Kate being born 50 years after. Kate, who was born a normal human, slowly turned into a shadow and eventually left Emily to infiltrate the House and find answers. Celebrities who went to Saturday's event included Scarlett Johansson, who is married to Jost, as well as Rachel Brosnahan and Quavo.

Kitchen

The back of the house, also known as the BOH, encompasses all the behind-the-scenes areas that customers will not see. This acts as the central command center in a restaurant because it’s where the food is prepared, cooked, and plated before making its way to the customer’s table. All back-of-house staff should wear clean uniforms and aprons while on the job.

Kitchen staff can prepare the meal and the wait staff can serve the drinks. It also provides an opportunity for servers to taste your menu options so they can make suggestions for their guests. Creating repeat customers by providing an unforgettable dining experience is the main goal for front of the house employees. They act as liaisons between guests and the kitchen, and have many job titles and functions. The chefs and cooks are responsible for recipe execution, food preparation, and plating the dishes.

Having a well-functioning back-of-house is crucial for the success of any restaurant. The proper organization of the kitchen, efficient inventory management, effective staff training, and upholding food safety standards are key components of a seamlessly operating BOH. By understanding the importance of the back of house and implementing best practices, restaurants can ensure customer satisfaction, improved operational efficiency, and overall success.

Pro-Palestinian protesters at Columbia University were given an ultimatum to abandon their encampment or risk suspension, after the breakdown of talks aimed at having it removed voluntarily. U.S. Secret Service chief of communications Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement that “attendees can expect layered security and screening at the dinner,” adding that there would be “intermittent” road closures near the venue. While the dinner, a tradition dating back 100 years, played out inside the ballroom, hundreds of protesters mobilized outside the venue to call for a cease-fire and criticize Biden's response to the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. The president called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to release Gershkovich immediately, adding that the White House was also doing everything it could to bring home freelance journalist Austin Tice and businessman Paul Whelan.

Create more impactful programs for onboarding and restaurant staff training to reduce high turnover rates with your staff. FOH staff are liable for providing the greatest possible customer experience and a friendly shopping environment. FOH staff have close contact with guests and the kitchen, and they inevitably do a variety of tasks.

To ensure smooth operations in the back of house, your kitchen layout needs to be optimized for efficiency, with equipment and workstations that are strategically placed to minimize unnecessary movement. As a restaurant owner or manager, you need to do everything within your power to bring the front and back of house together as one cohesive unit. It’s vital that your employees on both sides understand this and act accordingly. Restaurant employees use some common kitchen slang terms to communicate with each other. Making sure the members of your staff know what these words mean will lead to more effective interactions and teamwork. Adding outdoor seating to your restaurant increases your capacity and dining revenue.

The energy will be higher and emotions more evident, but that excitement stays confined to the BOH so that the customers can enjoy their meals. We've identified 5 ways to keep increasing online orders for your restaurant using a mix of creativity and technology. It is where food is prepared and stored, and it frequently has additional staff spaces like a break room and a changing area. The kitchen is the heart of any restaurant because it is where orders are prepared, cooked, and plated. The kitchen is also where all of the ingredients for a restaurant are stored, as well as where the dirty dishes are washed.

Nearly 5 years later, those dreams grew into bigger dreams and they relocated into a bigger salon space, doubling their team of stylists. During the 8th year of business they relocated yet again, settling into a perfect space they feel will be the salon’s long term home. This March  of 2024 marks 13 years for Jana and Chelsey’s vision being a reality. Bloom continues to grow substantially through each new year, and through each change they have endured.

Chelsey started her career at TONI&GUY Hairdressing, Inc. at the Town Center Mall location in Kennesaw. There, she went through an intense, two-year educational program in hair design that excelled her hair cutting and styling skills. In 2008, Chelsey became the manager of the Town Center location. Two years later after the birth of her daughter, she decided to leave TONI&GUY to be able to have more time at home. BUT color was exactly what I said I DIDNT WANT.

You can rest assure your hair care brands treat their people and the planet with a holistic approach. Being sisters, we grew up playing “hairdresser” with our Barbie’s and, of course, on each other.

Long story short, we signed the papers and got started immediately on establishing our new business. On March 17, 2011, we became an official corporation. All the work was done by our father, husbands, a few friends and ourselves. After 2.5 months of really hard work, we were ready to open.

Safe House, With Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds The New York Times

safe house movie

He notes that the mercenaries knew how to find his safe house, which likely means they were tipped off by someone inside the agency. This is later confirmed when Weston interrogates one of the mercenaries. As his allegiance is questioned and his mission becomes more and more dangerous, Weston begins to wonder where the truth of the whole situation actually lies. Reynolds is the star of the film, but because he's the junior actor, playing the rookie character, he's given even less to work with.

Frost pushes Weston to question his line of work

Frost returns and kills Vargas' team but is fatally wounded by Barlow. As he dies, Frost gives Weston the file, saying he is a better man than Frost. Mr. Washington turned 57 in December, but if he’s feeling any of the aches and pains of age, it doesn’t show. “Safe House,” a “Bourne”-esque story about the bad, bad things that agents sometimes do in the name of country and company, puts Mr. Washington through his action-flick paces. He runs, he punches, he runs, he punches and occasionally discharges a gun, either coldly (it’s just business) or with the slight look of disgust of a man cleaning off the bottom of his shoe.

The mercenaries, led by Vargas, attack the safe house and kill Kiefer and his team. While they are on their way to rendezvous with Weston at the safe house, Linklater learns about the microchip of sensitive information that Frost got his hands on. Frost was correct about the mercenaries coming from someone inside the CIA. That someone is Barlow, who knows that there is ruinous information about him on that microchip. In the aftermath of the fight, Weston demands to know what Frost did that led to him being hunted by both the CIA and a group of mercenaries.

Rotten Tomatoes® Score

The 2012 movie sees Ryan Reynolds playing rookie CIA agent Matt Weston. At the beginning of the film, Weston is living a relatively quiet life managing a safe house in Cape Town, South Africa. He's unsatisfied with his assignment, as he feels it's not giving him the opportunity to move forward in his career. Weston takes Frost to the new safe house, where Weston keeps the housekeeper, Keller, at gunpoint.

Safe House streaming: where to watch online?

In Cape Town, South Africa, junior CIA officer Matt Weston is serving as a "housekeeper", an operative in charge of securing and maintaining a local CIA safe house in case of an operation. He calls his mentor and immediate superior, David Barlow, and inquires about a station in Paris, where he hopes to follow his live-in girlfriend Ana, a young French physician about to start her residency. Barlow tells him he is likely underqualified for the position, which frustrates Matt as he has not had a "houseguest" during his year long tenure, and thus has been unable to gain field experience. But after his ordeal, Weston has come to greatly value the truth. He's been caught in a murky sea of lies throughout the film, often unable to determine which way is up.

Media

Back at the safe house, Weston wakes up after passing out from his injuries. After putting together all the clues, Weston knows that Barlow is behind everything. When confronted, Barlow confesses that he "did something [I'm] not proud of" and is now going to great lengths to keep it hidden. Meanwhile, both Barlow and Linklater have arrived in South Africa to investigate the situation.

Like a lot of contemporary action directors Mr. Espinosa tends to cut among several scenes, switching not simply between two scenes but also upward of four. In lesser hands this kind of editing scheme can devolve into visual and narrative chaos, as the filmmaker whiplashes from one location to another, sometimes for no apparent reason. Safe House is a 2012 American action thriller film directed by Daniel Espinosa, written by David Guggenheim, and starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. When the safe house is attacked by mercenaries, Weston flees with Frost in his charge. As the team of killers, who seem to be one step ahead of the pair, track them throughout Cape Town, Weston wonders who to trust. Vera Farmiga, Brendan Gleeson, Sam Shepard, Rubén Blades, Nora Arnezeder and Robert Patrick co-star.

Weston is getting an assist from his supervisor, David Barlow (Brendan Gleeson), as well as fellow senior agent Catherine Linklater (Vera Farmiga). They are not only trying to determine why Frost set up a meeting with a former MI6 agent before he turned himself over, but also why he's now being hounded by this mysterious group of mercenaries. Furthermore, Linklater is suspicious of Weston and concerned that he might be at risk of defecting. Everybody fights and everybody lies in a thriller that tries to glamorize spies while demonizing their profession.

Safe House Movie Reviews

safe house movie

Even though Barlow maintains that his protege isn't working with Frost, the mounting evidence in front of Linklater's face makes it hard for her to ignore the feeling that something isn't right. Reynolds is great, too, but the film truly belongs to Washington as the gruff, clever bad guy you'll end up rooting for. As for the action and choreographed violence, perhaps the number two reason for purchasing a ticket this weekend, again Safe House delivers adequately. Why do scripters even try to hide the identity of the villain until the end?

Storyline

But after leaving his meeting, Weston leaks the files to the media. The move puts him in a precarious position, but at least it's one where he has a handle on the truth. Frost also gives Weston a first-hand account of how duplicitous the higher-ups at the CIA can be.

Safe House streaming: where to watch online?

Frost reveals that he acquired a microchip loaded with files detailing massive corruption in every major intelligence agency in the world. Everything changes when Weston meets former CIA agent turned international criminal Tobin Frost (Denzel Washington). Frost arrives at Weston's safe house after surrendering himself to the Americans to avoid being killed by a group of mercenaries who have been hot on his trail. However, the mercenaries discover his location and destroy the safe house, forcing Weston and Frost to go on the run. Did or didn’t Frost betray his country is the question that the credited screenwriter David Guggenheim and Daniel Espinosa, the young, up-and-coming Swedish director, put into nimble play almost as soon as “Safe House” gets going. And, after some low-key place setting in Cape Town, where Matt Weston (Ryan Reynolds), an untested C.I.A. agent, is watching over a company safe house, the movie takes off like a shot.

Smoldering Superagent Runs...and Keeps on Running

According to Whitford, "People don't want the truth anymore, man. It's too messy. It keeps them up nights." Although Frost kills Barlow's mercenaries, he's fatally wounded in the process. Before Barlow has the chance to finish Frost off, Weston stumbles out of bed and shoots his former mentor.

Vargas' team attacks again, killing Carlos and his family, but Weston helps Frost escape. Weston brutally interrogates one of Vargas' wounded mercenaries, who reveals that Vargas is working for the CIA, which is seeking to retrieve the storage device from Frost. As they bandage their wounds, Frost urges Weston not to kill innocent people, telling the story of how he was forced to kill an air traffic controller while on a mission. He later learned that he was simply part of a plot to assassinate a whistle-blower who would expose wetwork committed by the CIA.

Plot

Given the obviousness in these films, they might as well include a character named Professor Plum, usually found brandishing a lead pipe in the conservatory, and be done with it. Although occasionally exciting, there’s a pointed lack of gamesmanship in the events for a yarn involving spies, coupled with a lackluster quality that fails to leave an impression. Safe House is 3744 on the JustWatch Daily Streaming Charts today. The movie has moved up the charts by 1372 places since yesterday. In the United States, it is currently more popular than Savage Dog but less popular than Bad Moms.

Back in the US, Weston files a report with CIA Deputy Director Harlan Whitford (Sam Shepard). Whitford thanks Weston for his report, and follows up on Barlow's promise of a promotion by offering to make him a senior agent. However, he also makes it clear that he will be expunging any mention of Barlow's wrongdoing from the report so that the information doesn't leak out.

When they arrive, he pulls a gun on the agent running the safe house. This leads to a bloody fight that leaves the agent dead and Weston severely injured. Safe House wasn't bad, it just wasn't new, and if a movie is involving rogue agents, it needs to meet its characterization with a plot that keeps us guessing. At some point in the tense, tough, visceral action movie “Safe House” a side character describes a rogue superagent played by Denzel Washington as “the black Dorian Gray.” Now that’s a movie pitch in waiting. Mr. Washington, or rather the mystery man he plays, Tobin Frost, a former operative for the C.I.A., lets out a short self-aware laugh of a man who isn’t just fielding a compliment but also owning it fully. A team led by veteran Daniel Kiefer transfers Frost to Weston's safe house in order to interrogate him for intelligence before he is returned to the US.

When Whitford tries to cover up the situation, it's the final moment of clarity. Weston knows now that if he continues to work for the CIA, he will completely forfeit any hope of an honest life. Eventually, he'll begin to believe whatever lies he tells himself and others to keep the charade going, just like Frost warned. By the time the two are en route to the next safe house, Weston has clearly internalized Frost's words.

Barlow's betrayal is a literal manifestation of Frost's earlier warnings about living a life of lies and deception. Even after Barlow offers him the promotion he had previously been eager for, his feelings about his mentor and the CIA have soured.

Back in the United States, Weston meets with Director Whitford, who informs Weston that unflattering facts about the CIA must be removed from his report, but that he will be promoted. He asks Weston about the file's location but Weston denies knowing about it. Whitford states that whoever has those files will have many enemies. Elsewhere in Cape Town, ex-CIA NOC operative turned international criminal Tobin Frost acquires a data storage device from rogue MI6 officer Alec Wade. Frost flees and, out of options, surrenders to the American consulate. Throughout their time together, Frost continuously tries to convince Weston to not trust his superiors at the CIA.

safe house movie

He tells him a story about how, when he was a young agent, he was deceived into murdering an innocent man by one of his superiors. More disturbing is Frost's admission that he let the deception slide and continued working for the CIA. He explains, "You practice something for a long time, you get good at it. You tell a hundred lies a day, it sounds like the truth." Weston tracks Frost to a township in Langa, where Frost meets Carlos Villar, an old friend and document forger, who provides him with travel documents but suggests that he leave his life of crime behind.

Spends most of its 117-minute running time much like its central characters -- tearing madly around, making a lot of noise and not really getting very far. The South African location, Denzel Washington's duplicitous dialogue, and the intense car chases help to coax viewers into forgetting about the humdrum plot. Safe House stars Washington and Reynolds are let down by a thin script and choppily edited action sequences. When the safe house he's remanded to is attacked by mercenaries, a rookie operative escapes with him. Now, the unlikely allies must stay alive long enough to uncover who wants them dead. If you've ever scoured HBO Max looking for a solid, yet underrated, thriller, there's a good chance you've already come across Safe House.

So, ditch the sweatpants and flip-flops and aim for a smart-casual look. In this article, I’ll provide you with a comprehensive review of my dinner cruise experience.

How to book Seine River dinner cruises?

Though the dinner cruise is a year-round experience, it’s especially magical in the summer months when the days are longer and Paris is in full bloom. However, there’s a unique charm to seeing the city lights reflected on the Seine on a crisp winter evening too. Just like the Premier service, you’ll enjoy a glass of champagne as an aperitif followed by a starter, main course, cheese, and a dessert of your choice. With plentiful options and so many reviews, it can be daunting to know which one to go with. From our exclusive embarkation points, the Ile de la Cité or the Port de l'Arsenal at the foot of the Place de la Bastille, sail off to discover a magical Paris. Enjoy a glass of champagne and a trio of macarons from the sun deck with its panoramic view, or in the covered dining room of our human-sized boat.

If you like to visit museums, you might want to try the Musee d’Histoire de la Medecine. From backroom speakeasies to modern nightclubs, Paris has a little bit of everything for everybody when it comes to nighttime entertainment. The entire bar, just as it was, was moved over to Paris in the early 1900s. This bar is credited with inventing some of the most popular cocktails we know today, including the Bloody Mary and the Sidecar.

Book an activity

There are multiple seating options (middle, window seats and tables at the bow) and menus to suit all budget types. At the foot of the Musée d'Orsay, enjoy a unique gastronomic experience with refined, home-cooked cuisine prepared by our chef. Because of this, you’ll want to make sure that you’re dressed for the occasion. If you’re not sure what you could or should wear to a particular establishment, some will list their dress code online or you can always give them a call. The sommelier aboard your champagne tasting cruise is an expert on the wines, champagnes, and wineries local to Paris. As you slowly make your way up the Seine River while enjoying a delicious lunch, you’ll pass under the Pont Neuf and other famous Parisian bridges straddling the Seine River.

Vedettes du Pont Neuf

Most of the hotels, many museums, and a lot of restaurants are all centrally located. While visiting the City of Lights may not be just as you expect after watching An American in Paris, a vacation in Paris is like nothing else. With so many tourist spots to explore, you may find it difficult to plan everything you’d like to see and experience into just one vacation.

Seasonal cuisine for your dinner

The French, especially Parisians, live life a little differently. This means that while you’re there, you may have to get used to eating at different times and you may need to plan your attire. Our travel guide below can help you plan a vacation to Paris whether you are staying for 2 days or 10 and whether it’s your first visit or fifth. This Seine champagne tasting cruise is the perfect way to learn more about local wines and champagnes as well as the wineries that produce them.

You may find it a bit intimidating at first due to the sheer number of lines and routes, but after a few trips to an attraction or restaurant, you’ll be riding the Metro like a pro. Bringing a set of casual clothes might not be a bad idea but be sure to bring enough clothes you can wear while out and about. If you don’t have much in the way of the chic style that Paris requires, at least you’re in the perfect place to go shopping to stock up on some. While you may be used to a dinner time of between 4 and 6 pm, it’s not uncommon for those in Paris to eat as late as 9 or 10.

The great thing about Seine River cruises is that they run all throughout the day and into the night, making it easy to find one that fits in with your schedule. The sun sets and night falls over Paris, the flagship Jean-Sébastien Mouche casts off its moorings and the harbour slowly drifts away. The mood is romantic, the magic is in force...You are the actors in a wonderful play, played only for you. The sophisticated menu echos the extraordinary setting, displaying culinary flair, governed by excellence. This dinner cruise will be remembered as one of the most special moments of your stay in Paris.

It dates back to 1895 and the interior decor hasn’t changed much since. This is one of those restaurants that only take cash, so have a few euros on you. While those in Paris can still be found wearing sneakers, most dress in a business casual or a simple but chic style. Most attractions and restaurants will frown on those wearing beat up shoes, blue jeans, and other very casual clothes.

Some places will even require a more elegant or fancy appearance, such as certain high-end restaurants. You’ll also find that the pickup and drop-off locations for many tours are located here. It makes things much easier if you find accommodations close to central Paris.
